FAQ

Frequently asked questions, honest answers

DL
RoDa Dental

We recommend professional cleaning every 6 months for healthy patients with good oral hygiene. Some patients need cleanings every 3-4 months if they have: history of gum disease (periodontal maintenance required), heavy tartar buildup, diabetes, smoking, or orthodontic braces. Children should start dental visits by age 1 or when first tooth erupts. Dr. Liu and Dra. Carrillo customize your cleaning frequency at our Zone 1 and Zone 9 Guatemala City clinics. Regular cleanings prevent gum disease (leading cause of tooth loss) and cavities.

Yes! our digital X-rays use 90% less radiation than old-fashioned film X-rays. Four bitewing X-rays (0.005 mSv) equal the radiation from one day of natural background radiation or 1-2 hour airplane flight. Annual background radiation in Guatemala City is 2-3 mSv - dental X-rays are minuscule in comparison. We use protective lead aprons, digital sensors for minimal exposure, and only take necessary X-rays. Benefits of early cavity/problem detection far outweigh minimal radiation risk. Dr. Liu follows ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) at our Guatemala City clinics.

Preventive care costs: Professional cleaning (prophylaxis) Q400, includes complimentary Fluoride treatment. Sealants vary per tooth, starting at Q250 per piece. New patient comprehensive visit (exam, cleaning, X-rays) approximately Q600. Regular 6-month cleaning visits Q400. Much more affordable than US/Europe. Invest in prevention - cheaper than treating cavities and gum disease! Book at our Zone 1 or Zone 9 clinic.
